How a shore operator had systems built on the certainty that nothing better was possible.
The challenge
Seven venues, three time slots each, and no way to confirm a booking without checking a tide chart first.
With three fixed daily slots across seven venues, every booking carried a hidden condition: whether the tide would allow it. Clients would call about a specific day and location, and the operator had to put them on hold or call back while he checked the tide manually. Twenty-one possible combinations, none of them visible on the calendar he was actually using. The cost wasn't just time — it was the gap between the quality of service on the water and the friction of booking it. ship team had never needed to sell. But referrals gave them no control over pipeline timing or volume, and deals stayed small because they came through personal relationships rather than enterprise procurement. Analysts capable of $200K engagements were scoping $60-80K projects.

The approach
The right answer wasn't obvious, and confirming it took more than one model's analysis.
Neither the operator nor his business partner knew what the fix should look like — or how to find out and trust the answer once they had it. That second problem was the real one. I ran the diagnosis across four AI models, using each to test and challenge the others' reasoning until the solution held up under scrutiny. Five earlier proposals looked plausible and were wrong — each missed part of the actual specification. The answer that survived was a single interface showing all twenty-one time-and-location combinations alongside that day's tide times and heights: an Acuity Scheduling build with tide data loaded in as a dummy staff member, paired with a custom app for on-the-go booking. I hadn't used Acuity or built a custom app before. With AI as a constant working partner through build and testing, it went from concept to an approved, working system.
The Results
One screen, twenty-one combinations, and a system the operator now trusts without checking anything else. Solution reached only after ruling out five plausible but incorrect approaches — the certainty came from the process, not just the build. System built to scale into full online booking when the business is ready.
Manual tide-chart cross-checking eliminated entirely
All 21 time-and-venue combinations visible on one screen, alongside live tide data
Operator can confirm and lock in bookings while still on the phone with the client
No double-bookings since implementation
No ongoing weather API subscription required
